Co Clare Junior & Master Lifesavers are 2011 National Champions

Ireland’s Junior (aged 14-19) and Master (30+) lifeguards competed at Irish Water Safety’s National Surf Lifesaving Championships hosted by Clare Water Safety at Whitestrand beach on Saturday 1st October last. Competitors travelled from counties Clare, Donegal, Waterford, Wexford, Louth, Galway, Mayo, Waterford, Kilkenny and Cork.

Co Clare competitors fended off strong competition from the fittest Lifeguards nationwide as their skills were tested in events that simulated emergency rescue in swim races, rescue board races and other events, which culminated in exciting finals. Co Clare competitors once again excelled taking home many individual medals, trophies and the overall best County trophy 2011. It has been a very successful year for Clare lifesavers at Nipper, Junior, Senior and Master levels.

Clare Senior Lifesavers Bring Home The Gold, Silver And Bronze For Ireland.

Clare Senior lifesavers earned 11 of the 14 medals brought home from the European Senior Lifesaving Championships held in Alicante, Spain recently (15-23 Sept 2011) The Irish team of 11 competitors placed sixth overall in the premier Lifesaving Championships in Europe. Five of the Irish Team are from Co Clare.

Co Clare Nippers win the Regional Surf Lifesaving Nipper Cup

The Regional Surf Lifesaving Nipper Championships were held in Tramore last Saturday, 6th August. Over 70 young surf LifeSavers represented Clare and competed fiercely in open water (sea) events against strong teams from Cork and Waterford. The Nipper competitors ranged in age from 8 to 14 years. They competed in all events on the day as they battled for and brought home the Cup and the Title.
